About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an Interaction Designer to work for our global Systems Integrator client. This is initially a 6-month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role based in one of the various office locations in the UK including Leeds, Manchester, London, Telford and Worthing.

We are seeking an Interaction Designer to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in delivering high quality interaction design and UX for a large end customer. Working closely with Senior Project/Programme Delivery Leadership and other Subject Matter Experts, you will help drive quality standards/outputs across one or multiple Programme Delivery areas. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to/lead specific initiatives within significant programmes of work.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a recognised Subject Matter Expert in Interaction Design and UX, providing authoritative advice, guidance, and documented design decisions that influence teams and delivery.
  • Set and shape product and journey direction, thinking strategically about how experiences connect across channels, services, and the wider organisation.
  • Design, create, and validate user‑centred solutions, producing online and offline journeys that are usable, accessible, and effective.
  • Lead the prototyping approach, using a range of techniques from low‑fidelity sketches to dynamic HTML prototypes, and share best practice across teams.
  • Evaluate usability and use data, insight, and research findings to inform decisions and continuously optimise user journeys.
  • Influence stakeholders through evidence‑based design, confidently facilitating workshops and collaborative sessions with product, delivery, and design teams.
  • Advocate for design excellence inside and outside the organisation, identifying gaps in design strategies or processes and developing practical solutions.
  • Improve team effectiveness by defining tools, templates, and ways of working, removing delivery barriers, mitigating risk, and streamlining content and design operations.

About You

  • Strong user‑centred mindset, demonstrating empathy, user focus, and evidence‑ and context‑based design.
  • Proven experience in wireframing, sketching, and rapid prototyping across web and mobile platforms.
  • Experience producing and validating designs using design systems and agile delivery methods.
  • Ability to prototype in code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and understand version control, accessibility, and security principles.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

 Preferred:

  • Experience using Git/GitHub and deployment or hosting tools such as Heroku.
  • Public sector design experience, including working to the Service Standard.
  • Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System, GOV.UK Prototyping Kit, and experience supporting or acting as a Service Assessor.
