About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking Content Designers to work for our global Systems Integrator client. This is initially a 6-month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role based in one of the various office locations in the UK including Leeds, Manchester, London, Telford and Worthing.

We are seeking a number of Content Designers to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in delivering high quality content design and UX for a large end customer. Working closely with Senior Project/Programme Delivery Leadership and other Subject Matter Experts, you will help drive quality standards/outputs across one or multiple Programme Delivery areas. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to/lead specific initiatives within significant programmes of work.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a recognised Subject Matter Expert in content design and UX, providing authoritative advice, documenting design decisions, and influencing delivery within and beyond assigned projects.
  • Set and shape product and design direction by defining the value of design, identifying gaps in strategy or process, and developing practical solutions that improve outcomes.
  • Design, create, and validate transactional and static content across complex online and offline journeys, iterating through prototypes or directly in code where appropriate.
  • Think strategically about endtoend journeys across channels, services, and organisations, ensuring content aligns with wider communications and service strategies.
  • Lead and influence the design process through evidencebased decisionmaking, proactively optimising journeys and advocating for usercentred design.
  • Use data, insight, usability testing, and research findings to inform design decisions, evaluate effectiveness, and assess services against GDS standards.
  • Confidently lead collaborative design activities, including workshops and stakeholder sessions, influencing senior stakeholders and championing design inside and outside the organisation.
  • Improve design and content operations by defining tools, templates, and ways of working, removing barriers, mitigating risk, and enabling teams to work more effectively.

About You

  • User-centred mindset & empathy- Demonstrates strong user focus, understanding user needs and designing content that supports people effectively.
  • Evidence-based content design- Uses research, context, and insight to make informed design decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Data, analytics & measurement- Confident using data, metrics, and analytics to evaluate performance and iterate content based on results.
  • User research & interaction design methods- Able to apply and/or create artefacts such as personas, journey maps, and support experimentation (e.g., A/B testing).
  • Clear, plain-English writing- Writes accurate, accessible content for different audiences, with excellent grammar, spelling, and editorial standards.
  • Omnichannel content creation- Produces content for both online and offline channels, adapting tone and format to the journey and context.
  • Agile collaboration & communication- Works effectively in multidisciplinary teams, communicates clearly, and contributes confidently in agile delivery environments.
  • Problem-solving with accessibility, inclusivity & security awareness- Identifies issues, proposes solutions, and designs content that considers accessibility, inclusivity, and security requirements.

Preferred:

  • Experience designing services in the public sector, with an understanding of government users and delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with the Service Standard and assessing or designing services in line with its principles.
  • Practical experience using the GOV.UK Design System and GOV.UK Prototyping Kit to design and test content.
  • Experience working with or supporting service assessments, including the Service Assessor role or preparation for assessments.
  • Hands-on experience using content management systems (CMS) to publish, manage, and iterate live content.
