About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data Engineer to work for our client within the legal sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London.

As a Data Engineer with expertise in CluedIn, Microsoft Purview, Fabric, Databricks, Azure Synapse, and Data Factory. You will integrate and optimise disparate data sources across their legal, financial, and operational systems. This role is critical to ensure that our client’s legal data assets are accurately mapped, classified, governed, and structured for compliance, efficiency, and insights-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate, classify, and map disparate data sources across matters, clients, people, finance, and knowledge into CluedIn and Microsoft Purview for a unified data catalog
  • Define and manage edges in CluedIn to establish clear relationships between legal cases, clients, fee earners, financial transactions, and knowledge repositories
  • Develop and automate ETL processes using Azure Data Factory for structured and unstructured data ingestion from case management, HR, finance, and knowledge systems
  • Design scalable data pipelines in Databricks (PySpark, SQL, Delta Lake) to process large datasets efficiently across legal, financial, and HR domains
  • Integrate CluedIn with Microsoft Fabric & Synapse
  • Implement firmwide data governance policies in Microsoft Purview, ensuring classification, data retention, security, and access controls
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, UK Data Protection Act, and legal data privacy laws, particularly in handling sensitive case files and client information
  • Integrate and optimize financial data pipelines for billing, revenue forecasting, cost analysis, and profitability insights in Azure Synapse and Databricks
  • Collaborate with lawyers, finance teams, HR, and IT to understand their data needs and provide insights-driven solutions
