About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Cloud Engineer to work for our client within the higher education sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London.

Our client is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to join their Research Computing Services team. You will manage their existing onsite secure data environment, ensuring operational continuity and compliance. Additionally, you will advance cloud-based data initiatives, utilising Microsoft Azure to build and maintain scalable, secure virtual data environments, and addressing any technical issues. These environments support research by providing a platform for data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and upgrade the on-site and cloud secure data environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to minimise downtime and guarantee compliance and security of secure data environments
  • Develop and maintain documentation for process, changes, deployments, and updates
  • Provides expert day-to-day technical support of a range of applications and services
  • Generate innovative solutions and influence stakeholders using your subject matter expertise
  • Oversee day-to-day interactions with providers and suppliers
  • Recommend improvements for continuous operational enhancements
  • Develop and apply solutions that benefit customers and stakeholders
  • ensure security in all aspects of cloud hosted environments, working with security specialists and prioritising adherence to data protection regulations and our client’s research data governance policies

About You

Requirements

  • Delivering services in accordance with business requirements while managing the full-service lifecycle
  • Experience working with source control, preferably GitHub
  • Experience of service management in a Cloud environment
  • Managing user requests with a service ticket system (JIRA, ServiceNow)
  • Experience of development using Agile or iterative project methodologies
  • Experience of engaging and influencing stakeholders; working with senior managers, ICT teams, other organisational teams, and other higher education organisations and suppliers
  • Experience of a programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, Terraform, Bash,Powershell)
  • Migrating on premise infrastructure and applications to the cloud
  • Knowledge of a broad range of current and emerging technologies and business processes, delivery models, principles, and practice
  • Practical knowledge of at least one leading cloud infrastructure platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Understanding of the unique requirements for enterprise use of private cloud, hybrid cloud, and public cloud
