About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Legal Project Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 5 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in one of various offices in the UK including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle. 

We are working with a major government client on a series of transformation programmes that will deliver significant organisational change. The Project Manager will be responsible for leading and managing projects on a day-to-day basis, ensuring delivery against agreed objectives within time, cost, and quality constraints.

The role requires strong project governance, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to oversee complex initiatives. In addition, candidates should bring some legal understanding- whether through prior legal training, experience as a lawyer, or involvement in projects with legal dimensions.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivery – Lead projects to deliver agreed outcomes within time, cost, and quality constraints.
  • Project Management – Day-to-day management of the project and team. Establish project controls, design appropriate structures, and manage transitions between phases.
  • Business Case – Develop and draft Business Cases with input from specialists.
  • Budget – Develop and manage budgets, ensuring delivery within financial parameters.
  • Resource Management – Identify skill requirements, deploy and develop resources, and manage a medium-sized team.
  • Benefits Realisation – Ensure benefits are delivered and monitored against the Business Case.
  • Stakeholder Management – Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, securing senior-level support where needed.
  • Risk and Issue Management – Identify, monitor, and mitigate risks and issues, escalating as appropriate.
  • Governance – Support effective governance and decision-making, providing reporting and accountability for delivery.
  • Assurance – Engage with assurance reviews and implement recommendations.
  • Change Management – Ensure effective processes are in place to agree and document changes with stakeholders.
  • Guidance and Support – Provide coaching and support to the project team, promoting effective performance and personal development.
  • Project Performance and Controls – Maintain project plans, set controls, and report progress to sponsors

About You

  • Prince2 Practitioner (or equivalent qualification).
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Experience managing projects using Microsoft Project.
  • Strong budget management and cost-benefit analysis skills.
  • Experience leading and managing teams.
  • Knowledge of project methodologies and software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Legal understanding gained through prior legal training, qualification, or experience delivering projects with legal dimensions.

Desirable

  • Experience using Project Online, Microsoft Project, or similar tools.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to champion smarter working with modern technologies.
  • Experience working within complex or public sector environments, particularly those adhering to Government Digital Service Standards.
