About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Project Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 3 month contract with good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role based in one of the 20+ various offices in the UK including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle.

This role supports a major transition programme within a government department, coordinating Workstream Leads and Project Managers to enable the smooth integration of a regulatory function into a newly established arm’s‑length body (ALB). The programme is non‑standard and requires a blended delivery approach with interactive elements, involving multiple agencies working to tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating a diverse team with varying capability levels on a complex, non‑standard programme.
  • Hosting, leading, and facilitating senior‑level meetings (Deputy Directors, Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Function).
  • Collaborating with internal departmental teams and external stakeholders, including delivery partners and other government bodies.
  • Representing the department in high‑level discussions and negotiations.
  • Managing conflict, prioritisation, and resource planning.
  • Maintaining direct engagement with the Programme Director and Senior Responsible Owner, with occasional interaction with the Chief Executive of the ALB.
  • Introducing and administering Azure DevOps Boards for the programme team, including training colleagues during early adoption.
  • Preparing for audits and ensuring compliance with departmental and cross‑government standards.
  • Managing requests for information, approvals, and escalations.
  • Ensuring alignment with programme governance, milestones, and strategic objectives.

About You

  • Proven experience coordinating complex, multi‑agency or cross‑government programmes.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and influence senior stakeholders, including Deputy Directors, SROs, and Heads of Function.
  • Experience working in environments with non‑standard or evolving processes, ideally within government or regulated sectors.
  • Strong background in project or programme delivery, including planning, risk/issue management, and governance reporting.
  • Experience facilitating senior‑level meetings and driving decision‑making in ambiguous or high‑pressure contexts.
  • Evidence of managing conflict, prioritisation, and resource allocation across diverse teams.
  • Experience working with external delivery partners, suppliers, or consultancy organisations.
  • Familiarity with digital delivery tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira, Trello) and the ability to support adoption across teams.
