About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Planning & Operational Excellence Specialist to work within the Insurance & Financial Services sector. This is initially a 6‑month contract with strong prospects for extension and will be a hybrid role based in Edinburgh or Cheshire.

Our client is seeking a highly organised and analytically minded professional to support their Operations function, focusing on planning cycles, performance improvement, and driving operational efficiency across key business processes. This role will sit within a fast‑paced operations environment and requires someone who is confident managing multiple stakeholders and delivering high‑quality operational insight.

Responsibilities: 
 
  • Lead operational planning cycles, ensuring accurate forecasting, capacity planning, and resource modelling.
  • Drive Operational Excellence initiatives, identifying process improvements and supporting implementation to enhance performance.
  • Gather, analyse, and present operational data to senior stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations leadership to support continuous improvement, standardisation, and governance of key processes.
  • Monitor KPIs and operational performance metrics, recommending actions to address risks and improve outcomes. 

About You

  • Strong experience in operational planning, resource planning, or capacity management within a large organisation.
  • Proven background in Operational Excellence (OpEx), Lean, or Continuous Improvement (certifications a bonus).
  • Comfortable operating in a busy, complex operations environment with multiple moving parts.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using tools such as Excel, Power BI or similar for operational reporting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey insights clearly and influence decision-making.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in planning, operations management, or process improvement roles.
