About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Observability & Strategic Tooling Consultant to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Cheshire.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled observability specialist to support the definition and delivery of a strategic tooling and observability roadmap. The role will focus on enhancing monitoring capabilities across distributed systems, improving visibility through telemetry, and enabling proactive performance management across cloud and hybrid environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement end-to-end observability pipelines, including data collection, ingestion, analysis and alerting
  • Define and support the delivery of the observability and strategic tooling roadmap
  • Work with engineering teams to embed best practices across logs, metrics, traces, and events (telemetry)
  • Lead root cause analysis and performance troubleshooting across complex, distributed systems
  • Optimise and enhance the use of observability platforms such as Splunk, AppDynamics and LogicMonitor 

About You

  • Strong experience with observability platforms such as Splunk, AppDynamics, LogicMonitor or similar
  • Deep understanding of telemetry concepts including logs, metrics, traces, and events
  • Experience designing and implementing end-to-end observability solutions and pipelines
  • Knowledge of OpenTelemetry or other open standards-based telemetry frameworks
  • Experience working within cloud (Azure/AWS) and hybrid environments
  • Strong analytical skills with proven ability in root cause analysis and performance optimisation
  • Solid understanding of APM, infrastructure monitoring, and digital experience monitoring (DEM)
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in observability, monitoring, or platform engineering
