About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Network Security Consultant to join our Global System Integrator/Consultancy client. This is an exciting opportunity to support a strategic network security review initiative, focused on assessing existing network security controls, identifying vulnerabilities, and shaping a future-state security architecture.

You will play a key role in conducting a comprehensive assessment of the organisation’s current network security posture, including evaluating perimeter controls, segmentation strategies, and monitoring capabilities. This work will directly inform risk reduction efforts, audit readiness, and wider security transformation programmes.

Working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, you will engage with network engineering teams, security leadership, and risk and compliance stakeholders to deliver actionable insights. The role is primarily advisory, with a strong emphasis on control effectiveness, architecture, and strategic improvement, rather than purely hands-on engineering. The role has an initial 6–12 month duration, with strong potential for extension and is a hybrid role based in London.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of existing network security controls and architectures
  • Assess effectiveness across:
    • Perimeter security (firewalls, gateways, proxies)
    • Network segmentation and micro-segmentation
    • Intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS)
    • Traffic monitoring, logging, and alerting
    • Zero Trust and secure access models
  • Identify control gaps, vulnerabilities, and security weaknesses and provide clear recommendations
  • Define and prioritise remediation actions and security enhancements
  • Develop a target-state network security architecture and control framework aligned to best practice (e.g. NIST, ISO 27001, CIS)
  • Support transition to modern network security models such as Zero Trust and SASE
  • Provide advisory input into network security architecture and technology strategy (firewalls, NAC, SD-WAN, SASE platforms)
  • Produce clear documentation, including assessment reports, roadmaps, and executive summaries
  • Define and track KPIs and metrics for network security effectiveness
  • Engage with stakeholders across security, network engineering, and risk / audit functions
  • Translate technical findings into business risk and actionable insights

About You

Must-Have

  • Strong experience in network security within enterprise or consulting environments
  • Proven experience reviewing and improving network security architectures and controls
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S)
    • Network segmentation and zoning
    • Secure connectivity (VPN, remote access, Zero Trust)
    • Network-layer threat detection and response
  • Hands-on experience with leading network security technologies:
    • Firewalls (Palo Alto, Check Point, Fortinet, Cisco)
    • IDS/IPS and network monitoring tools
    • Secure web gateways / proxies
    • NAC solutions
    • SD-WAN / SASE platforms
  • Familiarity with:
    • Cloud network security (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Hybrid and multi-cloud environments
  • Experience conducting security posture assessments, gap analysis, or control reviews
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear business recommendations
  • Experience working with stakeholders across security, infrastructure, and risk / compliance teams
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Nice to Have

  • Experience working within a Global System Integrator or consulting organisation
  • Background in regulated industries (e.g. Financial Services, Government, Healthcare)
  • Experience contributing to network security transformation or Zero Trust programmes
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and standards (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS)
  • Relevant certifications such as:
    • CISSP / CISM
    • CCNP Security / CCIE Security
    • Palo Alto / Check Point / Fortinet certifications

This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior network security professional who enjoys operating at the intersection of technical assessment, risk management, and strategic advisory, with strong prospects for extension and longer-term engagement within a global consulting environment.
