Architect

This position requires the successful candidate to work on a W2 directly with FDM. We cannot accept C2C, 1099 or employment sponsorship (e.g. H1-B) for this position.

FDM is seeking a Architect located in Buffalo to support a project in the financial sector. Involvement in this project is anticipated to last initially 12 months but may be extended.

This role will be hybrid with requirements to be in office 3 days per week.

• Support design and optimisation of cross-border, cross-currency payment flows
• Analyse and improve end-to-end payments processing lifecycle
• Contribute to architecture discussions across payments platforms and transaction banking systems
• Translate business requirements into technical and process-level solutions
• Provide insight into payments messaging, flows, and operational dependencies
• Support investigations, issue resolution, and process improvements

• Strong knowledge of cross-border payments and transaction banking
• Experience with:
  • SWIFT messaging
  • Central bank / clearing systems (e.g. Fedwire equivalents)
  • Real-time / high-value payment systems (e.g. CHIPS-type platforms)
• Understanding of:
  • Cross-currency payment flows
  • Full payments lifecycle (initiation → clearing → settlement → reconciliation)
• Familiarity with:
  • ISO messaging standards
  • Payment structures such as cover payments, serial flows, investigations

• Exposure to sanctions screening processes and controls
• Awareness of regulatory frameworks within payments environments
• Experience within global transaction banking / payments teams

• Blend of architectural thinking and domain expertise
• Strong ability to interpret complex payment flows and system interactions
• Comfortable working in environments where:
  • Internal systems are learned on the job
  • Domain expertise is the key differentiator
