About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a ServiceNow Developer to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 3-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London or Leeds

We are seeking a ServiceNow Developer to join our team and play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing scalable solutions across the ServiceNow platform. The successful candidate will take ownership of development activities, apply sound technical judgement, and deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs while maintaining platform stability and performance.

This role requires a strong understanding of ServiceNow best practices, with a focus on maximising native platform capabilities, reducing unnecessary customisation, and delivering solutions that are sustainable, maintainable, and able to evolve alongside changing business requirements. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, driving technical outcomes, and contributing to the continual improvement of the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Create, enhance, and support applications and services within the ServiceNow ecosystem.
  • Implement and optimise functionality across a broad range of platform capabilities, including ITSM, CSM, ITOM, Employee Centre, portals, catalogues, workflow automation, Flow Designer, integrations, and AI-driven features.
  • Design scalable solutions that maximise platform reuse and minimise unnecessary complexity.
  • Utilise standard platform features and proven design approaches to reduce support overhead and future maintenance effort.
  • Develop, test, and support integrations between ServiceNow and external platforms using industry-standard API technologies.
  • Collaborate with solution architects and technical leads to ensure alignment with established architectural principles and development standards.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve technical issues affecting platform performance or functionality.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, while contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives across the team.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance development practices and platform efficiency.

About You

  • Demonstrable experience developing solutions on the ServiceNow platform.
  • Broad exposure to multiple ServiceNow product areas rather than a single functional specialism.
  • Strong proficiency in platform scripting and automation technologies, including JavaScript, Business Rules, Script Includes, and Flow Designer.
  • Experience designing and implementing integrations with third-party systems and services.
  • Sound understanding of CMDB concepts, data modelling, and platform data relationships.
  • Proven capability to independently manage and deliver complex development work in a senior technical role.
  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) certification is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture and foundational data principles is essential.
