About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Business AI Engineer to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially an 8-month fixed-term contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Business AI Engineer to lead the safe and effective adoption of Artificial Intelligence across business-critical platforms. Working at the intersection of business, risk and technology, you will define how AI is embedded into key workflows, ensuring outputs are reliable, explainable and aligned with business and regulatory requirements. This role will focus on establishing AI governance, validation frameworks and orchestration layers that enable AI and business logic to operate together seamlessly. This is an opportunity to drive the adoption of trustworthy AI practices while influencing the future of AI-enabled solutions within a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement AI application strategies across business-critical workflows, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, decision-making and operational outcomes.
  • Design and enforce AI guardrails, validation frameworks and policy controls to ensure AI-generated outputs remain accurate, explainable and aligned to business requirements.
  • Architect orchestration layers that integrate AI capabilities with deterministic business logic, ensuring transparency, traceability and auditability.
  • Establish monitoring frameworks to identify and manage model drift, prompt drift and data drift, maintaining the reliability of AI solutions in production environments.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, risk teams, product owners and engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable and production-ready AI solutions.

About You

  • Minimum 9 years' experience, with significant experience operating at a senior level in software engineering, AI engineering or enterprise technology environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in Java, Spring and Spring Boot, with experience developing distributed, high-throughput and low-latency applications.
  • Proven experience with microservices architecture, REST APIs, event-driven systems, Kafka, relational databases and NoSQL technologies.
  • Experience implementing and governing AI solutions, including LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), model orchestration, prompt engineering and AI validation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of AI governance principles, including explainability, fairness, auditability, traceability and responsible AI practices.
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel or comparable AI workflow technologies.
  • Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes and cloud platforms including AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Strong understanding of financial services environments and the regulatory, governance and compliance considerations associated with AI adoption.
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions, influence stakeholders and mentor engineering teams on best practices and architectural standards.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with counterparty risk, security services or other workflow-driven financial platforms.
  • Knowledge of AI observability and evaluation frameworks for production AI environments.
  • Experience implementing model monitoring, prompt monitoring and drift detection capabilities.
  • Exposure to enterprise AI governance frameworks and policy management solutions.
  • Experience designing reliable, production-grade AI platforms within regulated industries.
