About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Market Data Engineer to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a fully office based role that will be based in Johannesburg.

Our client is seeking an experienced Market Data Platform Specialist to provide senior-level engineering, operational support, and strategic oversight for their market data environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliable delivery of real-time and reference market data to Global Markets trading platforms and downstream consumers. This role will focus on stabilising critical market data services, reducing operational risk, enhancing platform resilience, and supporting long-term market data platform initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on engineering and operational support for Bloomberg (BPIPE, Data License), LSEG/Refinitiv, and exchange-sourced market data feeds, ensuring stable and resilient delivery of real-time and reference market data services into Murex, Calypso, and downstream consumer platforms.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for production incidents impacting market data services and trading operations, leading root cause analysis and implementing both immediate and long-term resolutions to prevent recurrence. Drive operational risk reduction through the development of runbooks, monitoring standards, recovery procedures, and other support controls.
  • Manage technical engagement with vendors and exchanges, acting as a key liaison during incidents, platform upgrades, infrastructure refreshes, feed migrations, and operational changes. Support vendor discussions, service reviews, and performance management activities.
  • Support market data governance and compliance, including entitlements, usage controls, audit readiness, audit evidence preparation, data lineage, operational controls, vendor licensing obligations, and broader regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Drive platform resilience, knowledge transfer, and strategic improvement initiatives through documentation of critical configurations, dependencies, and operational procedures, reducing key-person risk and supporting structured knowledge transfer to team members and leadership.
  • Contribute to long-term platform planning and strategic roadmap development, supporting platform re-architecture initiatives, technology modernization, capacity planning, operational resilience, and continuous service improvement.

About You

  • 4-6 years of experience in market data, trading systems support, or financial markets technology.
  • Experience supporting Bloomberg products (BPIPE, Data License, Terminal connectivity, or related services).
  • Exposure to LSEG/Refinitiv market data platforms.
  • Experience supporting market data integration into trading, risk, or middle-office systems such as Murex, Calypso, or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of market data distribution, reference data, and real-time pricing services.
  • Experience in production support and incident management within a financial services environment.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem management processes.
  • Understanding of vendor entitlements, licensing controls, and audit requirements.
