About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data Engineer to work for our client within the Finance & Pensions sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a Hybrid role that will be based in Birmingham.
 
Responsibilities: 
  
  • Design, develop and maintain data pipelines and data integration processes.
  • Analyse, transform and manage complex datasets from multiple sources.
  • Support the development and optimisation of data platforms, data warehouses and data lakes.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to gather, interpret and translate requirements into effective data solutions.
  • Promote data quality, governance and best practice standards.
  • Contribute across the full project lifecycle, including discovery, analysis, design, build, testing and implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party suppliers to deliver technology solutions.
  • Support problem-solving and troubleshooting activities across data and reporting environments.
  • Contribute to agile delivery practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

  • Significant commercial experience working as a Data Engineer within complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience within Financial Services, Pensions, Investment Management or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience working with large-scale data platforms, data warehouses and/or data lakes.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles, data integration and data management practices.
  • Experience working with policyholder, investment, fund or other financial datasets.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to elicit and document business and technical requirements.
  • Experience working within agile delivery teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience collaborating with third-party vendors and technology partners.
Desirable:
 
  • Knowledge of modern data and analytics technologies.
  • Experience with reporting and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or similar.
  • Experience using Python, SQL or other analytics and data engineering technologies.
  • Understanding of data governance and architecture principles.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps and modern engineering practices.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence or similar delivery tools.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology or a related subject.
  • Relevant professional certifications or professional body membership.
