About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Azure Integration and Data Platform Developer to work for our client within the Public Sector sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role, requiring 2 days per week in the London office. The role will be based in London.

Our client is seeking an experienced Azure Integration and Data Platform Developer to support a major transformation programme. The role focuses on designing, building and supporting secure, cloud-native data integration and API solutions on Azure, including data ingestion and transformation with Azure Databricks, API development using Azure Functions (Python), and API governance through Azure API Management (APIM).

Working closely with architects, product owners and engineering teams, you will deliver scalable, secure and maintainable solutions while supporting the transition from legacy integrations to Azure-managed dataflows. Strong SQL and Python skills are essential, with experience of PHP, Java, PL/SQL or CMS integrations beneficial. The role suits someone comfortable working in Agile teams, contributing to sprint delivery and driving continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

Data Engineering and Integration

  • Design and implement data ingestion pipelines from internal and external source systems into Azure Databricks.
  • Implement Azure based APIs to expose data ingested and processed in Azure Databricks for consumption by websites and other applications.
  • Expose APIs securely via Azure API Management to cloud hosted content management systems.
  • Implement monitoring, error handling and operational support processes for data pipelines.
  • Maintain and support legacy API systems and integrations.
  • Manage and troubleshoot custom data ingestion pipelines, including legacy Cron jobs.
  • Ensure stability, performance and timely issue resolution for existing integrations.
  • Support T4 CMS content types that consume legacy Java APIs to render publications and people data on web pages.
  • Resolve website and search related support tickets.

API Development

  • Design, develop and maintain RESTful APIs using Azure Function Apps and Python.
  • Build reusable and scalable backend services following cloud native design principles.
  • Implement authentication, authorisation, logging and exception handling within APIs.
  • Develop integrations between Azure services and enterprise applications.

API Management

  • Publish and manage APIs through Azure API Management (APIM).
  • Configure API policies for security, transformation, throttling, caching and routing.
  • Implement subscription keys and other API security mechanisms.
  • Support API lifecycle management, versioning and governance standards.

Cloud Platform and DevOps

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
  • Support deployment automation and environment management.
  • Apply Azure best practice for security, scalability and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with architecture teams to ensure alignment with enterprise standards.

About You

  • Strong experience designing, building and supporting cloud native data and API solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Extensive experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Functions, Azure API Management and RESTful API development.
  • Strong Python and SQL development skills.
  • Experience building secure APIs, including authentication, authorisation, logging, monitoring and governance controls.
  • Experience supporting and modernising legacy integration platforms.
  • Good understanding of CI/CD practices and Azure DevOps.
  • Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies and sprint based working.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working closely with architects, product owners, engineering teams and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with PHP, Java, PL/SQL, content management systems and CMS to API integrations would be desirable.
  • Ideally 7+ years' experience within software development, integration, data engineering or cloud engineering roles.
