About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Architect to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6  month contract with the potential to extend and will be a mostly remote role with occasional travel into London or Manchester 

We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect with a strong background in application development, cloud-native architecture, and modern distributed systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, secure, and resilient solutions within a complex enterprise environment.

This role is ideal for an architect who combines deep technical expertise with excellent stakeholder engagement skills and can effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical audiences. 
Active Security Clearance (SC) required or eligibility to obtain and maintain SC clearance.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Design and architect modern cloud-based solutions using AWS services and technologies.
  • Lead the architectural design of complex application development initiatives.
  • Define and promote best practices for microservices architecture, API design, and cloud-native development.
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure successful implementation of architectural standards and patterns.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the full software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and delivery teams to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and compliant.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, risk assessments, and technical governance activities.
  • Support ongoing modernisation and digital transformation programmes.

About You

  • Active Security Clearance
  • Extensive experience as a Solutions Architect or Technical Architect.
  • Strong hands-on background in application development and software engineering.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing solutions within AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong experience with microservices architecture, containerisation, and API-driven solutions.
  • Good understanding of cloud security principles and secure software development practices.
  • Experience working across multiple technology teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
 
  • Experience delivering Identity and Access Management (IAM) or authorisation/authentication programmes.
  • Knowledge of modern identity technologies, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, and federated identity solutions.
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Familiarity with container platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience working within regulated or government environments.
