About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking experienced Project Managers to support a rail infrastructure client in the successful close-out and handover of depot-focused projects within the Crewe and Holgate/York areas.

You will play a key role in bringing a portfolio of infrastructure and depot-related schemes through their final stages of delivery, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with programme governance requirements. Working within a complex rail environment, you will collaborate with operational teams, contractors, engineers, commercial teams, and senior stakeholders to manage project closure, handover, assurance, and final delivery activities.

The role will require regular site attendance within the Crewe and Holgate areas, typically two days per week, with the remainder of the time spent working remotely.

About the Role

We are seeking Scheme Project Managers with rail infrastructure and depot delivery experience to support the close-out, completion, and handover of a number of active schemes.

You will be responsible for overseeing the final phases of project delivery, ensuring all outstanding works, governance requirements, commercial activities, documentation, and operational handovers are completed successfully. Working closely with delivery teams, asset managers, operational stakeholders, contractors, and support functions, you will ensure projects are closed in a controlled and compliant manner.

The role requires strong project governance, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, health and safety knowledge, and experience operating within project environments. You will act as a key link between project delivery and operational teams, ensuring successful transition into business-as-usual operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the close-out and handover activities for multiple depot-focused infrastructure projects
  • Coordinating final delivery activities to ensure successful transition into operations
  • Developing and maintaining project plans, schedules, and delivery programmes
  • Managing project governance, reporting, assurance, and project controls processes
  • Overseeing project risks, issues, actions, and dependencies through to completion
  • Supporting contract administration and commercial management activities
  • Monitoring project performance against scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, standards, and best practice
  • Coordinating contractors, technical specialists, operational teams, and key stakeholders
  • Producing project reports, completion documentation, and handover packs
  • Facilitating stakeholder meetings, progress reviews, and governance forums
  • Managing relationships with customers, third-party representatives, business leaders, and support functions
  • Supporting investment, procurement, and governance requirements throughout project closure
  • Leading project teams and providing effective line management where required

About You

  • Degree educated in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, the Association for Project Management (APM) or an equivalent professional body
  • Proven project management experience within complex rail or infrastructure environments
  • Demonstrable experience delivering projects through governance, delivery, close-out, and handover phases
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across operational, technical, commercial, and customer groups
  • Experience managing project schedules, costs, risks, contracts, and commercial activities
  • Strong analytical, evaluation, and decision-making capabilities using project data and reporting
  • Experience leading project teams and providing line management support
  • Knowledge of project health and safety management, legislation, and industry best practice
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and delivery management skills

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of safety case development and assurance activities
  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent formal Project Management certification
  • Experience delivering depot, rail operational, or maintenance facility projects
  • Experience managing project completions, operational readiness, and handover activities
  • Experience working within highly regulated and safety-critical environments
  • Knowledge of NEC contract frameworks and contract management
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, commercial, and programme functions
