About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Technical Business Analyst (Azure FinOps) to work for our client within the public sector sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based UK-wide, with two days per week in a local office.

Our client is seeking a Technical Business Analyst to deliver a FinOps health check across its Azure environment. You will assess the current approach to cloud cost management, identify practical optimisation opportunities and improve cost visibility and reporting. Working collaboratively across technical, architecture, finance and commercial teams, you will build on existing capabilities, embed cost considerations into technology decisions and recommend an effective, sustainable FinOps operating model.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess current FinOps maturity, processes, tooling and responsibilities, using the FinOps Foundation framework as a reference point and reviewing existing Azure cost management capabilities.
  • Improve cloud cost visibility by identifying opportunities to automate reporting, strengthen cost attribution and improve information provided to finance and decision-makers.
  • Identify Azure optimisation opportunities, including rightsizing, idle resources, reservations and savings plans, and prioritise practical quick wins.
  • Develop a cost decision framework for Azure, on-premises and other hosting options, incorporating cost considerations into architecture and finance approvals.
  • Define appropriate FinOps roles, responsibilities and governance, presenting recommendations and delivery options for a sustainable long-term capability.

About You

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including Azure Cost Management, Azure Advisor, budgets and alerts.
  • Good understanding of cloud costing and billing models, including pay-as-you-go, reservations, savings plans and licensing, with experience analysing cloud spend and developing practical recommendations.
  • Strong business analysis capabilities, including current-state assessment, process mapping, gap analysis and options appraisal.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and finance stakeholders, translating complex cloud cost information into clear, practical recommendations for senior audiences.
  • Desirable: FinOps Certified Practitioner or relevant Microsoft Azure certification, with additional experience in areas such as Azure DevOps, infrastructure as code, Power BI, public sector environments or Azure Virtual Desktop costing.
