About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Project Manager – Public Safety Technology Transformation to work for our client. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role (three days a week on site) based in London.

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join a large, complex technology programme that is replacing the critical communications network used by the UK's police, fire and ambulance services. You will take ownership of a defined project, milestone or one to two workstreams. You will bring clarity to a remit that may not be fully formed, and drive delivery through planning, supplier coordination and stakeholder management. This is not a graduate or junior role. We welcome applications from former armed forces personnel, police officers and staff, fire and rescue and ambulance professionals, and returners with strong operational or transformation experience. Training in project methods and financial discipline will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead one defined project, milestone or one to two workstreams within a larger programme.
  • Turn broad client needs into a clear delivery plan with outcomes, milestones, owners and dependencies.
  • Coordinate client, supplier and user stakeholders, including senior stakeholders.
  • Manage risks, issues, actions, decisions and dependencies, and escalate early and constructively.
  • Drive a significant supplier milestone or commercial change through governance and acceptance.
  • Report clearly and credibly on progress, slippage, decisions, resources and delivery confidence.
  • Work constructively with demanding or competing stakeholders while staying calm and professional under pressure.
  • Understand how technology change affects police and emergency-service users, and support adoption of new technology and processes.
  • Build financial and commercial awareness relevant to project delivery, even where you are not the budget holder.

About You

  • Substantial professional and operational experience, with evidence of owning delivery outcomes, projects, operational change or complex work packages.
  • Strong stakeholder management, including confidence working with senior, demanding or conflicting stakeholders.
  • Calm judgement and professional conduct under pressure.
  • Proactivity: able to shape an unclear assignment, identify what is needed and drive action.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including concise escalation and reporting.
  • Understanding of front-line user needs and the operational impact of technology or process change.
  • A collaborative style and the self-awareness to build trusted relationships.
  • Willingness and capacity to learn formal project methods, technology delivery and financial disciplines.
  • Eligibility to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance. Current or previous SC is an advantage but not essential.
  • Commitment to working on site three days a week in Stratford, with reasonable travel as required.
  • Availability to start shortly after selection, subject to vetting and onboarding.

Desirable

  • A project management qualification or equivalent practical delivery experience.
  • Experience of technology implementation, systems rollout, service transition or user adoption.
  • Experience of supplier, contract, commercial-change or milestone management.
  • Experience in policing, public safety, central government or another regulated operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of budgets, forecasts, benefits, RAID management or governance reporting.
