About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Cloudflare Security Engineer to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 3 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a remote role that will be based in Leeds or London

We are looking for an experienced Cloudflare Security Engineer to support the implementation, configuration and ongoing management of Cloudflare security solutions across a complex enterprise environment.

The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Cloudflare security products, particularly Web Application Firewall (WAF), Bot Management, Zero Trust Access and Secure Web Gateway, alongside a good understanding of wider SSE and SASE architectures.

You will work closely with security, networking, infrastructure and application teams to ensure Cloudflare services are configured effectively, security policies are optimised and the organisation's applications, users and network traffic are protected against evolving cyber threats.

Responsibilities:
  • Configure, manage and optimise Cloudflare WAF, including security rules, managed rulesets, custom rules and application protection policies.
  • Implement and manage Cloudflare Bot Management, helping identify and mitigate malicious or unwanted automated traffic. Cloudflare's Bot Management uses machine learning and behavioural analysis to distinguish and block malicious bot activity.
  • Manage Cloudflare Zero Trust / Cloudflare Access, implementing identity-based access controls for applications and services.
  • Configure and manage Cloudflare Gateway / Secure Web Gateway, including DNS, HTTP and network filtering policies.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing development of SSE and SASE security architectures using Cloudflare One.
  • Develop and maintain security policies covering application access, Internet traffic, users, devices and corporate networks.
  • Monitor Cloudflare security events, investigate alerts and support the remediation of identified vulnerabilities or threats.
  • Troubleshoot complex Cloudflare, networking, application security and connectivity issues.
  • Work with application and infrastructure teams to onboard applications and services into Cloudflare.
  • Support integration with enterprise identity providers, SSO and endpoint/device management solutions.
  • Review existing Cloudflare configurations and recommend improvements to security, performance and operational efficiency.
  • Produce technical documentation covering configurations, policies, processes and security architecture.
  • Work directly with enterprise stakeholders to understand security requirements and translate them into appropriate technical solutions.

About You

  • Proven hands-on experience working as a Cloudflare Engineer, Security Engineer, Network Security Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong practical experience with Cloudflare security technologies, including:
    • Cloudflare WAF
    • Cloudflare Bot Management
    • Cloudflare Access / Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)
    • Cloudflare Gateway / Secure Web Gateway (SWG)
    • Cloudflare One
  • Proven experience managing enterprise-scale application security and/or SSE/SASE environments.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust security principles.
  • Experience implementing and managing WAF policies and application-layer security controls.
  • Strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TLS, TCP/IP and web application security.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex networking and security issues.
  • Experience working with enterprise identity providers, SSO and MFA.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across security, infrastructure, network and application teams.
