About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Micronaut Developer to work for our client within the retail sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Micronaut Developer. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising high-performance microservices applications using the Micronaut framework. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including architects, DevOps engineers, and front-end developers, to build scalable and efficient solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications using the Micronaut framework
  • Optimise application performance and ensure low-latency, high-availability systems
  • Implement best practices in cloud-native application development, including containerisation, service discovery, and fault tolerance
  • Collaborate with architects and DevOps teams to build scalable CI/CD pipelines
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry best practices
  • Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior developers
  • Work with databases (SQL and NoSQL) to design efficient and scalable data models
  • Integrate third-party APIs, messaging queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and other microservices
  • Ensure application security and implement authentication/authorisation mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, etc.)
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in the Micronaut ecosystem and contribute to architectural discussions

About You

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Java-based application development
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with the Micronaut framework
  • Strong understanding of Java 11+ and frameworks like Spring Boot
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Proficiency in building and consuming RESTful APIs and GraphQL
  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with database technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
  • Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and writing unit/integration tests
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
