About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data Science Lead to work for our client within the insurance sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

As a Data Science lead, you will manage a team of high functioning Data Scientists to help with our client’s growth strategy. You will ensure that your team are contributing to both the short- and long-term decision making of the business, as you help to embed the utilisation of data as a product, this could range from building propensity modelling, LTV predictions, incremental testing, segmentation modelling, econometrics in addition to guiding each team member to set ambitious strategies, working towards these in a data driven way. Good customer and commercial outcomes will be executed through your analytics.

This role requires a deep understanding of data science techniques and services. It is a technical role and as such you will have a wealth of experience in driving data-driven decision-making across the organisation. You will be able to tackle complex problems using a range of methods, guiding your team through a constant test and learn culture, helping to raise the bar and to help innovate.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development and execution of the data science strategy and vision to drive growth, improve customer experience and create a fundamental step change in the use of data for our client’s offering
  • Leading a dedicated team of data science experts, who are directly accountable for the development and maintenance of customer science modelling, customer strategy, optimising performance with the use of data science techniques, ensuring effective commercial benefit and meeting regulatory requirements
  • Mentor and matrix manage the growing business intelligence function, to provide oversight of reporting and visualisation principles
  • Building a data science target operating model, balancing insource and outsource solutions, and procuring and managing 3rd party suppliers, including data agencies and software vendors
  • Support the Head of Data & Insight by defining and communicating the data science strategy, vision, and roadmap
  • Engage with both technical and non-technical audiences to explain the business value of a data science projects
  • Build innovative and effective approaches to solving analytics problems and communicating clear and relevant results and methodologies to internal stakeholders
  • Ensure familiarity with risk management programs, as they impact this position, and follow appropriate risk management procedures to control, monitor and report on business activities

About You

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of data science techniques and services
  • Working knowledge of python libraries for machine learning and data science
  • Extensive experience of managing multidisciplinary data teams (including data science, software development, research)
  • A significant number of years of “in the field” practitioner experience of various analytical methods including machine learning & artificial intelligence
  • Experience of business analytics
  • Demonstrable stakeholder management experience including senior leaders, executives, and board members.
  • Marketing experience, with a track record of achieving growth using data driven reasoning
  • Ability to problem solves and make decisions with good judgement, providing rational and sound recommendations
  • Ability to recommend new/innovative ways to solve recurring problems and support continuous improvement
  • Able to foster collaborative relationships across functions and business to facilitate cooperation and information exchanges that improve customer and business outcomes
