About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Security Architect to work for our client within the retail sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Leeds

Our client is seeking an experience Security Architect who will support their Technology Architecture team in designing, governing, and implementing secure technology solutions across the business. This role works closely with senior architects, project teams, and security operations to help shape and assure the security posture of new systems, services, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of security architecture documentation, including high-level designs, patterns, and roadmaps
  • Participate in architecture and technical review boards, contributing security insights to project and programme design
  • Provide technical input on IT security strategy and help ensure alignment with the client’s reference architectures and security principles
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, solution, and data architects to ensure security is embedded throughout the technology stack
  • Support security design activities within major transformation programmes and new product initiatives
  • Engage in security reviews of third-party vendors, cloud providers, and SaaS platforms to validate compliance with the client’s security standards
  • Assist in threat modelling, risk assessments, and documenting security controls across infrastructure and application layers
  • Participate in incident response efforts and support the identification of root causes and mitigation strategies

About You

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in IT security, ideally including exposure to architecture or design responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of key infrastructure domains (networks, operating systems, databases, cloud platforms)
  • Familiarity with common security controls and technologies (e.g., firewalls, WAFs, endpoint protection, IAM, SIEM)
  • Experience with public cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and an understanding of security best practices in those environments
  • Understanding of enterprise security standards and frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF, OWASP Top 10
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to convey technical security issues to non-technical stakeholders
  • Exposure to security architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, SABSA)
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD security, container security, or secure application design
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management and threat modelling techniques
  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CISA, or equivalent (or working towards)
