About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Solutions Engineer to work for our client within the finance sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is seeking a Solutions Engineer with 2 years’ experience who will work will work within a Scrum team to apply business requirements to develop productions that satisfy customer needs. You will also provide assistance to support the product in the live environment by performing in depth analysis of raised issues and developing fixes to remediate the problems. You will autonomously write clean, efficient code using SQL Server to translate Business Requirements into efficient Solution functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Translate user stories into functional solutions using SQL Server (DDL, DML, aggregates, basic performance tuning)
  • Support production environments and deliver fixes and improvements
  • Contribute to system design and development planning
  • Learn and apply modern tools such as Python, PowerShell, Snowflake, and potentially streaming tech (e.g., Apache Spark)
  • Engage with cloud, data warehouse, and modern ETL concepts as the platform evolves
  • Maintain high code quality with unit testing and best practices
  • Take ownership of code through build, test, and deployment phases
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across teams

 

About You

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Solution Engineering
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical discipline
  • Good knowledge of Agile development and SDLC
  • Proficiency in SQL Server including, creating/modifying tables and views, querying and updating data using DML, aggregating and analysing data sets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to continuous learning
  • Familiarity with query performance tuning and execution plans
  • Experience with Python, Snowflake, PowerShell
  • Exposure to Apache Spark, Databricks, or other streaming platforms
  • Awareness of cloud computing concepts and data warehousing
  • Understanding of EMIR or MiFIR regulatory reporting solutions
