About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a People & Cost Operations Project Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in one of the various office locations around the UK.  

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Project Manager who understands Cost Operation rules and Cost Operations transfer process. You’ll be working on planning for two tranches of resource from two public sector companies. The ideal candidate will have solid engagement skills, be personable, will lead a small team and have the ability to plan and organise. You should be able to deal with and pivot accordingly on direction changes.

You will be responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that the objectives are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints. You’ll have a key role in project governance and working with stakeholders, to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable benefits to be realised.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints while supporting effective governance, enabling decision making and providing reports to account for delivery
  • Design project structure and organisation appropriate to stage while using suitable delivery methodologies, managing effective transition between project phases
  • Develop a comprehensive business case with input from specialists, defining measurable benefits and outcomes while implementing a Benefits Realisation Strategy and monitoring long term delivery 
  • Identify skill requirements and deploy and develop resources while maintaining the budget and tracking delivery 
  • Establish and manage senior leaders, internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Monitor project risks and issues to mitigate actions and escalate if needed, while working with related projects to manage interdependencies
  • Organise and engage with assurance process and reviews such as gateway reviews while supporting recommendations
  • Ensure effective change management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders
  • Provide support, guidance and coaching for the project team, showing commitment to personal development while promoting effective individual and team performance
  • Translate strategic vision and into delivery objectives and establish project controls while monitoring performance to report progress to sponsors

About You

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in project management delivery  
  • Prince 2 (Practitioner level) accredited or equivalent or equivalent qualification  
  • Experienced in managing projects using Microsoft Project  
  • Skilled in managing budgets and cost benefit cases  
  • Demonstrated capability in leading and managing teams  
  • Knowledge of project methodologies and software 
  • Excellent oral and written communications 
Desirable 
  • Experience with managing projects using Project Online, Microsoft Project or similar tool  
  • High Microsoft Office skills and ability to work smarter with modern technologies  
  • Experience working within a complex or public sector environment adhering to Government Digital Service Standards
