About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Darlington, Edinburgh, Salford, or Bristol.

Our client is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the development and delivery of secure, scalable, and user-focused analytical tooling. This role is a unique opportunity to shape a cloud-based platform designed specifically for analysts, ensuring that their needs are at the heart of its design and functionality.

You will be part of a central data science and engineering team, working closely with data engineers, analysts, and digital colleagues to build and maintain a modern, cloud-native environment for analysis at scale. This platform is being developed to serve a wide analytical community, and your work will directly enable secure, reproducible, and efficient analysis across a range of high-impact domains.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of secure, cloud-based infrastructure for analytical tooling
  • Manage scalable deployments of core tools such as JupyterLab, RStudio, VS Code, Git, and dbt
  • Implement authentication, access control, monitoring, and audit capabilities that align with cross-government security standards
  • Establish robust CI/CD pipelines and effective environment management practices tailored to analytical workflows
  • Collaborate with data engineers and digital delivery teams to ensure seamless integration between analytical tooling and data infrastructure
  • Support user onboarding and continuously gather feedback to improve and evolve the platform
  • Champion best practices in cloud infrastructure, DevOps processes, and security throughout the platform lifecycle

About You

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a DevOps Engineer role
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering secure, cloud-based infrastructure (AWS preferred)
  • Proficiency in containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker, Terraform, and AWS ECS/Fargate
  • Experience deploying and managing analytical tools in cloud environments (e.g. JupyterLab, RStudio, VS Code)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Familiarity with public sector information security standards and implementing access controls in cloud platforms
  • A collaborative and user-focused mindset, with experience working across technical and analytical teams to deliver impactful solutions
  • Experience working directly with analysts or in data-focused environments
  • Familiarity with dbt or other modern data transformation tools
  • Knowledge of how to design and deliver user-friendly analytical platforms that support secure, reproducible workflows
  • Awareness of governance and compliance requirements in cloud-based analytical settings
