About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Microsoft 365/SharePoint Online Solutions Engineer to work for our client within the technology sector. This is initially a 5 month contract with the potential to extend and will be hybrid role that will be based in Derby or Bristol. 

Our client is seeking a Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Online Solutions Engineer who would be responsible for the design, configuration, and enhancement of SharePoint Online and related M365 services.

This role ensures secure, compliant, and efficient collaboration across the organisation by optimising information architecture, automating workflows, and enforcing governance policies.

Responsibilities:

SharePoint Online Architecture & Configuration

  • Design and maintain SharePoint Online architecture, including site lifecycle, storage, search, and metadata strategies.
  • Manage sharing policies, access controls, and external collaboration settings.
  • Implement and monitor DLP (Data Loss Prevention), data classification, and Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) integrations.
  • Define and document site templates, lists, libraries, and folder structures through custom site provisioning processes.
  • Optimise storage and versioning strategies for efficient content management.
  • Define and manage permission models, ownership structures, and governance controls.
  • Implement data access and sensitivity-based security measures.
  • Establish and maintain consistent metadata, tagging, and classification standards.
  • Develop and maintain site provisioning governance and documentation.

Enhancements & Solution Delivery

  • Deliver SharePoint enhancements to improve information sharing, security posture, and data retention.
  • Implement solutions for guest access management, permission auditing, and archiving.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process automation and service improvement.

Automation & Power Platform Development

  • Build automation workflows using Power Automate (flows for approval, logging, reporting).
  • Develop Power Apps (canvas and model-driven) to support business processes.
  • Create dashboards and reports using Power BI.
  • Automate provisioning and reporting tasks using PnP PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.

Security & Compliance

  • Configure and maintain Microsoft Purview for sensitivity and retention labelling, and auto-labelling.
  • Apply conditional access policies, M365 group governance, and Entra ID (Azure AD) security group management.
  • Ensure alignment with organisational security, compliance, and data governance frameworks.

Stakeholder Engagement & Documentation

  • Facilitate workshops and requirement-gathering sessions with business and IT teams.
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions and governance recommendations.
  • Produce clear design documentation, implementation plans, and operational runbooks.

About You

  • SharePoint Online: Deep understanding of site architecture, metadata, permissions, governance, and modern web parts.
  • Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance: Hands-on with Purview, sensitivity/retention labels, conditional access, and Entra ID.
  • Power Platform: Strong Power Automate and Power Apps skills; basic Power BI experience.
  • Automation & Scripting: Proficient in PnP PowerShell and Microsoft Graph for provisioning and auditing.
  • Governance & Information Management: Experience with compliance policies, retention, and information lifecycle management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication skills; able to bridge business and technical audiences.
  • Documentation: Ability to produce detailed design and process documentation.

Nice-to-Have

  • Advanced Power BI: Data modelling and complex visualisation for compliance or governance reporting.
  • Migration Experience: Experience using tools like ShareGate or similar for large-scale migrations.
  • Change Management & Training: Experience in user adoption campaigns, end-user training, or Microsoft Viva Learning integration.
