About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Payments Infrastructure Architect to work for our client within the professional services sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London, though the client is open to candidates across the UK for the right fit.

Our client is seeking a Senior Payments Infrastructure Architect to support a high-priority RFP engagement. This role require deep technical expertise in designing and leading retail payments systems architecture, with a strong emphasis on leadership and collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of retail payments infrastructure solutions
  • Define and enforce technical standards and architectural frameworks
  • Act as a design authority, guiding technical decisions and ensuring alignment with business goals
  • Collaborate closely with domain experts and stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable solutions
  • Provide architectural leadership across solution and enterprise domains

About You

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role and proven track record as a Payments Infrastructure Architect, ideally in retail payments
  • Experience setting architectural standards and frameworks
  • Demonstrated leadership in architecture roles (e.g., Head of Architecture, Architecture Lead)
  • Strong understanding of enterprise-level payments systems
  • Ability to distinguish between solution and enterprise architecture and operate effectively in both
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent stakeholder engagement skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in account-to-account payments, real-time schemes, cross-border payments
  • Familiarity with both acquiring and issuing sides of card payments
