FDM is a global business and technology consultancy delivering client and industry driven solutions through our 5 core specialist Practices; Software Engineering, Data & Analytics, IT Operations, Change & Transformation, and Risk, Regulation & Compliance.

As a Developer supporting the Equity Cash Settlements team, you will design, build, and maintain software solutions that support the lifecycle of equity cash trades — from settlement instruction through confirmation, reconciliation, exception‑handling and reporting. Strong experience with NoSQL (specifically MongoDB) as well as relational databases, messaging systems, and high‑volume transaction flows will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend services and data pipelines supporting equity cash settlement flows: trade capture, affirmation, netting, settlement instruction generation, settlement matching, fails/exception resolution.

  • Design, build and optimise the MongoDB data model/schema/sharding strategy to support high‑volume settlement data and low latency queries.

  • Integrate with relational databases for reference/trade data and ensure smooth interoperability between MongoDB and SQL/DB2/Oracle systems.

  • Implement APIs, messaging interfaces (e.g., Kafka, JMS, MQ) and file‑based interfaces used in settlement workflows.

  • Ensure data integrity, reconciliation, auditing and reporting of settlement flows—resolving discrepancies and supporting root‑cause analysis for breaks/fails.

  • Partner with operations/middle‑office, trade support and business stakeholders to gather requirements, deliver solutions, and respond to incidents or production issues.

  • Participate in production support (L3), monitoring, alerting, performance tuning and ensuring high availability of mission critical settlement systems.

  • Adopt best practice software engineering: unit/integration tests, CI/CD pipelines, code review, agile sprint delivery, documentation and runbooks.

  • Solid software engineering experience (typically 4‑8+ years) working on backend systems in financial services, preferably settlements or post‑trade.

  • Hands‑on experience with MongoDB: designing schemas, sharding, aggregation framework, performance tuning, indexing strategy.

  • Good understanding of relational database systems (SQL/DB2/Oracle) and data modelling.

  • Experience working with messaging/middleware and asynchronous/distributed systems (e.g., Kafka, MQ).

  • Familiarity with trade lifecycle, settlements process for equities/cash products (bookings, netting, settlement instructions, fails management) is a plus.

  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, CI/CD, unit/integration testing, monitoring/operations.

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to troubleshoot production issues, good communicator who can collaborate across business & tech.
