About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Delivery Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 3-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Manchester.

Our client is seeking a Delivery Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of complex projects, ensuring successful delivery across a major product area or business function. You’ll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to shape and maintain a strategic delivery roadmap. Your background will span software development, operational process optimisation, user research, experience design, and policy alignment, enabling you to guide delivery and set the tempo for progress.

You’ll build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and take the lead in crafting compelling business cases. Acting as a delivery champion, you’ll foster autonomous teams, proactively removing obstacles and ensuring smooth progress. You’ll also manage budgets and ensure financial accountability across your programmes.

Responsibilities:

  • Enable Continuous Improvement: Support high-performing teams in refining their practices, sharing insights, and establishing delivery standards.
  • Drive Performance Through Metrics: Develop and apply meaningful performance indicators to help teams stay focused and identify areas for growth.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective relationships with technical teams, Product Owners, and senior leaders, using appropriate governance frameworks.
  • Navigate Complex Dynamics: Manage interactions between internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals and priorities.
  • Deliver Value Through Collaboration: Partner with business and technology teams to ensure new services and products are launched effectively and deliver tangible benefits.
  • Support Product Strategy: Work with Product Owners to shape the digital roadmap and translate it into actionable backlogs.
  • Lead Business Case Development: Coordinate across stakeholder groups to create and evolve business cases throughout the project lifecycle, embedding best practices.
  • Facilitate Strategic Workshops: Design and lead sessions that drive outcomes and establish delivery momentum.
  • Accelerate Delivery: Own and resolve key blockers, and mentor others in the delivery community to enhance their effectiveness.
  • Lifecycle Management: Identify appropriate transitions between product lifecycle stages and ensure alignment with service standards.
  • Champion Agile Practices: Lead agile ceremonies across multiple initiatives, setting the benchmark for agile delivery and ensuring unified objectives.
  • Community Leadership: Define and evolve agile standards within the delivery manager community, continuously improving tools and methodologies.

About You

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Delivery Methodology Expertise: Skilled in evaluating and selecting the most effective delivery approaches, with a focus on outcomes and adaptability.
  • Resilient and Reflective: Comfortable with experimentation and change, able to pivot when needed and maintain a broad perspective.
  • Lifecycle Awareness: Experienced across various stages of the product lifecycle, with the ability to identify key deliverables and engage the right stakeholders at the right time.
  • Collaborative Planning: Works effectively with other delivery teams and stakeholders to ensure coordinated planning and execution.
