About The Role

This position requires the successful candidate to work on a W2 directly with FDM. We cannot accept C2C, 1099 or employment sponsorship (e.g. H1-B) for this position.

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy delivering client and industry driven solutions through our 5 core specialist Practices; Software Engineering, Data & Analytics, IT Operations, Change & Transformation, and Risk, Regulation & Compliance.

FDM is seeking a Business Analyst located in New York, NY to support a project in the finance sector. Involvement in this project is anticipated to last initially 12 months but may be extended.

This role will be hybrid with requirements to be in office 2 days per week.

This role will partner closely with business stakeholders, data solution architects, and data engineers to translate complex workflows into actionable requirements, driving the firm’s enterprise data modeling, governance, and reporting initiatives. The Business Analyst will ensure clear documentation, project execution discipline, and hands-on data validation, helping deliver trusted, business-ready data.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering & Documentation
    • Partner with bankers, COOs, and coverage teams to capture workflows, data needs, and pain points.
    • Document business requirements, process flows, and use cases in clear, actionable formats.
  • Project Coordination & Execution
    • Track progress across data model projects, ensuring follow-ups, accountability, and timely delivery.
    • Support data architects and engineers by maintaining backlogs, data catalogs, and business glossaries.
    • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and blockers; escalate and help resolve.
  • Hands-On Data Analysis
    • Query and explore datasets in SQL and Databricks to validate requirements, understand relationships, and check data outputs.
    • Assist in comparing modeled outputs to business needs, flag discrepancies, and support issue resolution.
  • Stakeholder Communication
    • Serve as liaison between technical teams and business users, ensuring requirements are fully understood and aligned.
    • Provide clear status updates, meeting notes, and documentation to stakeholders and senior management.

About You

  • 5-7 years in Business Analysis, Project Management, or a hybrid BA/PM role within financial services, consulting, or data-heavy environments.
  • Technical/Analytical:
    • Proficiency in SQL (ability to query, join, and analyze relational data).
    • Familiarity with Databricks or similar data platforms; able to navigate and validate datasets.
    • Strong ability to understand data concepts and business rules, even if not coding pipelines.
  • Business Knowledge: Prior exposure to investment banking, CRM systems (Salesforce, DealCloud), or data governance highly preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to interact with senior stakeholders.
  • Execution: Highly organized, proactive, and self-driven, able to manage multiple priorities with minimal oversight.
