This position requires the successful candidate to work on a W2 directly with FDM. We cannot accept C2C, 1099 or employment sponsorship (e.g. H1-B) for this position.

FDM is seeking a Data Governance Lead located in New York, NY to support a project in the finance sector. Involvement in this project is anticipated to last initially 12 months but may be extended.

This role will be hybrid with requirements to be in office 3 days per week.

This role will design and oversee the firm’s data governance framework, stewardship model, and data quality approach across investment banking, equities, and wealth management businesses. The Data Governance Lead will work closely with data architects, business stakeholders, and technology teams to ensure trusted, well-defined data for reporting and analytics across our Databricks lakehouse and consumption platforms including CRM, Management reporting, Data Science teams, and GenAI.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and refine the enterprise CoreData data governance framework, including policies, standards, and roles for data ownership and stewardship across the enterprise. Build out a scalable team and data governance practice and lead:
  • Define governance processes for critical data domains (e.g., companies, contacts, funds, deals, clients, sponsors) to ensure consistency, compliance, and business value.
  • Identify and onboard business data owners and stewards in various business teams across investment banking, equities, and wealth management.
  • Partner closely with Data Solution Architects and business stakeholders to align definitions, semantics, and survivorship rules, particularly for the Databricks lakehouse initiative (CoreData) and the Advisory DealCloud implementation.
  • Define and prioritize data quality rules and metrics for key data domains across CoreData.
  • Lead Develop training and onboarding materials for stewards and users, reinforcing the connection between governance and improved reporting, risk management, and analytics outcomes.

About You

Specific Qualifications

  • 6–8 years in data governance, data management, or closely related roles within financial services.
  • Strong understanding of data governance concepts, including policies, stewardship models, data quality management, and issue-management processes.
  • Familiarity with CRM and deal management platforms (e.g., DealCloud, Salesforce) and modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks or similar).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL to investigate data issues, run ad hoc analyses, and validate data quality rules.
  • Comfortable working with data in tools such as Databricks / jupyter notebooks, Excel, and BI tools.
  • Proficiency in Python for basic automation, data wrangling, profiling, cleansing, and validation is strongly preferred.
  • Prior exposure to investment banking, equities, or private markets data strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to lead cross-functional discussions and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to balance strategic framework design with hands-on governance execution.
