About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Junior Software Engineer to work for our client within the banking sector. This is initially a 12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Sheffield. 

This role is ideal for graduates or early-career developers interested in full stack engineering with a strong emphasis on automated testing, infrastructure tooling, and operational efficiency.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Develop and maintain full stack applications supporting enterprise infrastructure teams.
  • Build automation tests (unit, integration, API, UI) to ensure quality, reliability, and security across systems.
  • Contribute to internal tooling for monitoring, automation, observability, and operational workflows.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and follow engineering and security standards.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and technical design discussions.
  • Support issue investigation, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

  • Experience with one or more programming languages (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java).
  • Understanding of full stack development using frameworks such as React, Angular, Node.js/Express, or Spring Boot.
  • Strong interest or experience in automation testing using tools like Jest, Mocha, Cypress, Selenium, JUnit, or PyTest.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, Git version control, and basic database concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
Desirable:
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated test integration.
  • Awareness of DevOps, infrastructure automation, or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Basic understanding of containers (Docker, Kubernetes) or infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
  • Experience with monitoring/logging platforms such as Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus.
