About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to work for our client within the global consultancy sector. This is initially a 6-12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is seeking a a consultant to be responsible for working with stakeholders to identify and define self-service analytics solutions, dashboards and best practice, actionable BI reports. Key to this role is enterprise BI design and collaboration with the client team to ensure design is repeatable, lean, and maintainable across a large organization. The Senior BI Consultant must have a strong fundamental understanding of data warehousing, data modeling and data engineering best practice.

Responsibilities: 

Technical Leadership and Development:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of Power BI reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions.
  • Build and maintain complex data models, including data warehousing, DAX calculations, and optimized Power BI solutions to support scalable insights.
  • Design and implement role-based security models and user access within Power BI to protect sensitive data.
  • Maintain and optimize Power BI datasets, reports, and workspace structures for efficient access and management.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams using Databricks to source, clean, and load data, ensuring high data quality and alignment with Power BI requirements.

Data Governance and Quality:

  • Collaborate with data governance teams to implement consistent data definitions, naming conventions, and standards across Power BI reports and models.
  • Ensure data accuracy and reliability by implementing data validation, error handling, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Create and maintain documentation on data sources, transformations, and business logic in Power BI to support data literacy and transparency across teams.

Stakeholder Engagement and Support:

  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand their data needs, translating business requirements into actionable Power BI solutions.
  • Act as the main point of contact for Power BI-related projects, leading workshops, demonstrations, and training sessions to upskill business users.
  • Provide end-user support, troubleshooting Power BI-related issues, and continuously seek user feedback to enhance reporting solutions.

Project Management and Team Leadership:

  • Oversee and manage a team of Power BI developers and analysts, providing guidance, setting standards, and promoting best practices.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (e.g., data engineering, IT, and business departments) to align Power BI solutions with broader data initiatives.
  • Utilize agile methodologies to manage project workflows, ensuring efficient, iterative development cycles, quick issue resolution, and alignment with evolving business needs.

About You

  • 5+ years of experience in Power BI development, including data modelling, DAX, and Power Query.
  • Strong background in data analysis, SQL, and experience with data warehousing and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with Databricks for data storage, cleansing, and warehousing to support Power BI integration.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale Power BI projects in a corporate or enterprise environment.
Desirable:
  • Proficient in DAX, M language (Power Query), and data modelling principles.
  • Experience with RLS (Row-Level Security) and deploying Power BI reports across multiple environments.
  • Familiarity with agile project management tools and processes to support iterative development.
  • Understanding of version control and collaborative development practices (e.g., Git, DevOps).
Educational Background:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications in Power BI, data analytics, or Databricks are preferred.
