About The Role

FDM is seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator for a 6‑month contract based in Cheshire or Edinburgh. You will support core database engineering activities across installation, configuration, performance optimisation and operational support for Oracle environments.

Our client is looking for a highly experienced Oracle DBA to support the design, implementation, optimisation, and operational reliability of mission‑critical Oracle database environments across on‑prem and cloud platforms.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure and maintain Oracle databases across on‑prem and cloud environments.
  • Manage backups, restores and disaster recovery, including RMAN and Data Guard.
  • Perform performance tuning and optimisation at database and OS level.
  • Support patching, upgrades, migrations and ITIL‑aligned change processes.
  • Monitor performance and capacity using database monitoring tools.
  • Contribute to database design, modelling, capacity planning and standards.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and support knowledge sharing across engineering teams.

About You

  • Strong hands‑on Oracle DBA experience in enterprise production environments.
  • Skilled in performance tuning, optimisation and troubleshooting.
  • Solid understanding of backup, recovery, HA/DR and database security.
  • Comfortable with Linux (RHEL) for database operations.
  • Experienced in patching, upgrades and structured change management.
  • Able to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Nice to have:

Cloud experience (OCI / Azure / AWS), Delphix, SolarWinds, NetBackup or Rubrik.
