About The Role



FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Powerbuilder to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Edinburgh. 

Our client is seeking a 
PowerBuilder Expert to support and enhance business‑critical financial services client platforms. This role will focus on the development, maintenance, and optimisation of legacy PowerBuilder applications, ensuring platform stability, performance, and continuity for their clients.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain PowerBuilder applications, including user interfaces, business logic, and DataWindows, across client‑facing financial systems.
  • Support live production environments, performing defect investigation, root‑cause analysis, and resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Implement enhancements and change requests in line with client requirements, ensuring solutions are robust, well‑documented, and production‑ready.
  • Collaborate with broader technology and delivery teams (e.g. Java, PL/SQL, QA) to support integrations, releases, and system improvements.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer and platform sustainability, including documentation, mentoring, and support for modernisation or transition initiatives where appropriate.

About You

Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years experience as a PowerBuilder developer, with deep knowledge of PowerScript and DataWindows.
  • Experience supporting enterprise‑scale, business‑critical systems, ideally within financial services or regulated environments.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g. Oracle and/or SQL Server) and SQL‑based data access within PowerBuilder applications.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in legacy platforms.
  • Experience working in structured or Agile delivery environments, with the ability to engage professionally with technical teams and client stakeholders.
