About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an Application Support Analyst to work for our client within the Insurance sector. This is initially a 6‑month contract with strong potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

We are seeking an Application Support–focused professional who is comfortable working in a fast‑paced service environment, supporting core insurance systems and troubleshooting complex technical and business issues. This role blends hands‑on system support, SQL‑driven investigation, and close collaboration with underwriting and policy administration teams. It will suit someone who has worked in a support or service desk environment and who brings strong analytical capability and technical fluency.

Responsibilities:

 Application & Technical Support

  • Provide day‑to‑day support for internal insurance applications, particularly policy administration and risk‑writing platforms.
  • Investigate incidents, analyse root causes, and resolve issues using strong SQL or light programming/scripting skills (not full development).
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot data, workflow, and integration problems.
  • Partner with technical teams to escalate or triage more complex issues where required.
Business Support and Continuous Improvement

  • Work directly with underwriters, operations, and business stakeholders to understand problems, gather evolving requirements, and provide guidance on system usage.
  • Translate business issues into structured technical insights for engineering teams.
  • Support backlog management and prioritisation in a continuous‑delivery environment.
  • Contribute to repeatable change initiatives across policy, risk, and administration workflows.
Document and Process

  • Produce clear, reusable support documentation, process flows, issue logs, and knowledge‑base content.
  • Document functional behaviour, troubleshooting steps, and system interactions to improve support efficiency.
  • Act as a bridge between end users and technical teams, ensuring clear and efficient communication.

About You

  • Experience working in an application support, service desk, production support, or similar operational role within Insurance.
  • Strong SQL querying skills and ability to analyse data issues (comfortable reading, writing, and troubleshooting SQL).
  • Exposure to scripting or programming logic (e.g., Python, VBA, JSON, XML, or similar), with a practical, problem‑solving mindset—not full‑time development.
  • Ability to investigate technical and business issues logically, identify root causes, and drive resolutions.
  • Understanding of core insurance concepts such as policy administration, risk writing, and underwriting workflows.
  • Comfortable in unstructured, high‑demand environments (BAU + change).
  • Quick learner, able to adapt to new systems and processes (e.g., Saberfish‑RiskWrite).

Nice to Have

  • Lloyd’s of London market experience.
  • Specialty lines or complex commercial insurance background.
  • Experience supporting policy admin, underwriting, or risk platforms.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement, process optimisation, or dual BAU + change roles.
