Solution Architect- Manchester

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Solution Architect to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Manchester

An experienced Solution Architect is required to lead the architectural design, assurance, and end‑to‑end delivery support for a large‑scale SAP Cloud Migration programme. The role operates within an established team and involves close collaboration with internal technical SMEs across infrastructure, networks, security, and application. The position is responsible for shaping secure, resilient, and supportable solution designs that align with organisational standards, architectural governance, and best‑practice cloud principles.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and support all solution architecture activities related to the SAP Cloud Migration programme.
• Develop High‑Level Designs (HLDs), solution options assessments, integration patterns, data flows, and supporting artefacts.
• Work collaboratively with network, security, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure end‑to‑end design coherence.
• Partner with third‑party and vendor delivery teams to ensure solution designs are correctly interpreted and implemented.
• Ensure all solutions adhere to security‑by‑design principles, architectural standards, governance frameworks, and compliance requirements.
• Present solution designs and technical decisions at governance boards, including the Technical Design Authority (TDA).
• Provide architectural oversight throughout delivery, including design assurance, risk identification, and mitigation guidance.
• Support other strategic and operational technology initiatives by providing solution architecture expertise where required.

• Exposure to or experience working with SAP landscapes, modules, or migrations.
• Experience designing or supporting DMZ architectures.
• Knowledge of enterprise services such as SMTP, Active Directory, Secure LDAP, and identity management patterns.
• Proven experience operating as a Solution Architect within complex, enterprise‑scale environments.
• Demonstrable experience planning or delivering on‑premise to cloud migration programmes.
• Strong hands‑on understanding of Microsoft Azure services, patterns, and architectural best practices.
• Solid knowledge of security architecture, secure network design, and cloud-native security tooling.
• Excellent documentation skills with the ability to produce clear and consumable architectural artefacts.
• Effective communicator able to engage technical and non‑technical stakeholders at all levels.
