Senior Delivery Manager- Manchester

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Delivery Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Manchester

We are seeking an experienced Delivery Manager to lead both discovery and delivery across a portfolio of initiatives, with a focus on addressing legacy technology. This role requires someone who is comfortable operating in ambiguity, can diagnose delivery challenges quickly, and pragmatically determine the most effective delivery approach on a project‑by‑project basis, while recognising when waterfall, agile or hybrid approaches are more appropriate.

A technical background or strong technical understanding is highly desirable to enable effective collaboration with engineering teams and informed decision‑making.

Responsibilities:

• Lead discovery phases to understand problem spaces, legacy systems and delivery constraints
• Assess existing delivery models, team maturity, and technical landscapes to recommend the most effective approach
• Partner with technical leads and architects to identify risks, dependencies, and remediation options for legacy technology
• Shape delivery plans, roadmaps, and milestones based on discovery findings
• Own end‑to‑end delivery across multiple initiatives, ensuring outcomes align to business objectives
• Select and apply the most appropriate delivery methodology (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid) per project
• Drive delivery from inception through to release, maintaining momentum and transparency
• Manage delivery risks, issues and dependencies proactively
• Foster strong collaboration between product, engineering, architecture, and stakeholders
• Act as the primary delivery point of contact for senior stakeholders
• Provide clear, concise updates on progress, risks, and decisions
• Enable teams to operate effectively by removing blockers and managing competing priorities
• Proven experience delivering complex technology initiatives
• Strong planning, prioritisation, and dependency management skills
• Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously

• Demonstrable experience as a Delivery Manager, Programme Manager, or Senior Project Manager
• Experience delivering within technology‑led environments
• Technical background or strong technical literacy (e.g. working closely with engineers, architects, or platforms teams)
• Experience in discovery‑led delivery and ambiguous problem spaces
• Prior experience supporting or leading delivery transformation is highly desirable
