About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Cyber Security Architect- Genomics/Data Security to work within the cyber security and data protection domain. This is initially a 4‑month contract, with the potential to extend, and will be a hybrid role based in London.

The role will focus on the design of secure target‑state architectures to support the storage, handling and protection of highly confidential genomics data. This is a hands‑on architectural position requiring strong technical expertise, stakeholder influence and experience working in complex data‑centric environments. 

Responsibilities:
 
  • Develop end‑to‑end target state security architectures aligned to organisational strategy and regulatory requirements
  • Define security principles, patterns and guardrails for data‑centric systems across cloud, on‑prem and hybrid environments
  • Design solutions covering data classification, handling, encryption, tokenisation and key management
  • Lead the creation of data security architectural roadmaps, outlining current, target and transitional states
  • Conduct data‑focused threat modelling using recognised methodologies (e.g. STRIDE, MITRE ATT&CK)
  • Identify data‑specific threats, vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies
  • Provide technical security advisory input and support architectural governance
  • Contribute to the development and extension of data security standards and risk taxonomies 

About You

  • Proven experience as a Cyber Security Architect, Data Security Architect, or similar senior role
  • Strong background designing security architectures for highly confidential or sensitive data
  • Demonstrable experience producing data security roadmaps and architectural documentation
  • Strong experience conducting data‑centric threat modelling
  • Solid knowledge of cloud security architectures (Azure, AWS or GCP)
  • Expertise in encryption, tokenisation, pseudonymisation and key management solutions
  • Strong understanding of identity and access management and data governance controls
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR or similar
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risk into business impact
  • Comfortable working in fast‑paced, ambiguous delivery environments
Desirable:
  • Security or architecture certifications (e.g. CISSP, CCSP, SABSA, TOGAF)
  • Experience with zero‑trust or data‑centric security principles
  • Knowledge of large‑scale data platforms, data lakes or API‑driven architectures
