About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Central Cloud Engineer to work for our client within the Retail sector. This is initially a 6–12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a remote role with once-a-month travel to London.

Our client is seeking an experienced Central Cloud Engineer to join a cross-functional cloud practice supporting a large-scale supply chain technology function. Unlike a typical embedded cloud role, this position sits across multiple teams and accounts, owning cloud-wide initiatives including a migration away from CloudWatch to Bosun for monitoring and alerting. The ideal candidate is highly technical, operationally strong, and equally capable of leading conversations and driving initiatives across engineering teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  • Own and manage AWS infrastructure across multiple supply chain accounts, handling vulnerability remediation, secret rotation, cost optimisation, and observability improvements
  • Lead and support the migration from CloudWatch to Bosun, including scoping, planning, and hands-on implementation across multiple teams and accounts
  • Triage and prioritise cross-team cloud tickets, assessing severity and determining whether issues require central cloud involvement or can be handled by embedded team engineers
  • Collaborate with engineering managers and cloud engineers across teams to drive automation initiatives and standardise cloud processes at a supply chain level
  • Act as a technical lead in cross-functional discussions, communicating complex cloud topics clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders
  • Support pipeline and infrastructure work across the AWS ecosystem, including CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, and CDK

About You

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS, including CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, CDK, and CloudWatch
  • Proven working knowledge of Terraform, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions
  • Familiarity with Kafka sufficient to understand and operate within event-driven supply chain environments
  • Experience working across multiple cloud accounts or teams simultaneously, rather than within a single embedded product team
  • Excellent communication skills — able to lead technical conversations, articulate complex ideas clearly, and influence prioritisation decisions across teams
  • Demonstrable experience driving cross-team cloud initiatives such as cost saving programmes, security remediation, or tooling migrations
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a cloud engineering role
  • Desirable: Hands-on experience with Bosun or similar time-series monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, Datadog, or New Relic
  • Desirable: Experience managing or contributing to a monitoring stack migration (e.g. CloudWatch to a third-party alerting framework)
  • Desirable: Familiarity with OpenTSDB or scollector in the context of metrics collection and aggregation
