About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to work for our client within the higher education sector. This is initially a 12‑month fixed term contract, with strong potential to extend. The role is hybrid based London.
 

Our client is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to combine hands‑on data engineering with technical leadership of a Microsoft Fabric data platform. The role spans the full data lifecycle, including ingestion, transformation and optimisation, alongside shaping platform architecture, governance and standards.

You will act as a senior technical lead across multiple projects, ensuring the platform is secure, scalable and aligned with Azure standards, while driving best practice and continuous improvement across delivery teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines across ingestion, transformation and delivery layers
  • Develop solutions aligned to Medallion architecture, including Bronze, Silver and Gold layers
  • Define and evolve platform architecture, including workspaces, capacity models and integration patterns
  • Act as the subject matter expert for Microsoft Fabric across the organisation
  • Define and enforce platform standards across security, governance and lifecycle management
  • Provide technical leadership across delivery teams and guide implementation
  • Implement monitoring, alerting and logging across pipelines and platform services
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines and promote DevOps best practice
  • Support delivery across multiple data platform projects, ensuring alignment with architecture and standards
  • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, security and business stakeholders, and mentor team members

About You

Requirements 

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, pipelines, workspaces and capacity management
  • Experience designing and delivering Azure‑based data platforms and pipelines
  • Strong understanding of data modelling and ETL/ELT processes
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD and infrastructure as code
  • Knowledge of cloud security, governance and access control
  • Proficiency in SQL and working knowledge of Python or similar
  • Experience with Azure services such as Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks or Azure SQL desirable
  • Ability to lead technically while remaining hands‑on
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • BPSS clearance required
