About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Technology Services Lead  to work for our client within the banking sector. This is initially a 12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London.

Our client is seeking
an experienced Technology Services Lead to join our London-based Application Production Services Engineering team within our Electronic Trading environment. You'll play a key role in supporting the stability, availability and performance of low-latency Equities trading platforms, working closely with traders, developers, infrastructure teams and operations. Whilst this is not a people management role, you'll act as a deputy to the Team Lead, providing leadership during incidents, driving service improvements and helping to shape operational best practice across the team.

This role would suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced trading environment, enjoys solving complex technical problems and is passionate about delivering operational excellence within financial markets technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Take end-to-end ownership of production services, leading incident response, triage, recovery and stakeholder communication through to resolution.
  • Partner closely with traders, front-office users and operations teams, managing production issues and providing clear, timely updates during critical events.
  • Act as a senior point of escalation within a team of 10 engineers and deputise for the Team Lead when required.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate risks across applications, infrastructure and operational processes to improve platform stability and resilience.
  • Maintain rigorous change management practices, particularly during market hours and high-impact trading events.
  • Lead root cause investigations and drive the permanent resolution of recurring issues and technical debt.
  • Deliver measurable service improvements that reduce incidents and improve platform performance and availability.
  • Champion automation, monitoring and tooling enhancements to increase operational efficiency and observability.
  • Collaborate with global technology teams, sharing knowledge, mentoring less experienced engineers and contributing to wider engineering initiatives.

About You

We're looking for a technically strong and proactive production support professional with a proven track record supporting business-critical trading systems.

Experience:

  • Experience working within UNIX/Linux environments.
  • Scripting and automation experience using Python and/or Shell.
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Cribl or Netcool.
  • Solid understanding of incident, problem and change management processes.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience leading major incident bridges and coordinating technical teams during high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrable ability to take ownership, influence outcomes and drive operational improvements.
  • Experience supporting traders and front-office stakeholders in a trading environment.
  • Previous experience within Equities trading or wider financial markets technology.
Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of FIX protocol and electronic trading platforms.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting OMS platforms and market-leading vendor technologies including Fidessa, Ullink or TT.
  • Familiarity with exchange connectivity and market data platforms such as Reuters, Bloomberg or Exegy.
