About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an Environment Manager to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Edinburgh or Cheshire.

Our client is seeking an experienced Environment Manager to lead the planning, governance, provisioning, and operational management of programme environments supporting a large-scale transformation initiative. The successful candidate will act as the central coordination point across delivery, infrastructure, testing, data, and third-party teams, ensuring environments are available, stable, secure, and aligned to programme milestones and release schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the programme environment strategy, roadmap, and plans aligned to delivery milestones and release schedules.
  • Establish and govern environment policies, standards, inventories, and configuration baselines.
  • Coordinate environment provisioning, configuration, refreshes, backups, access management, monitoring, and decommissioning activities.
  • Manage environment-related incidents and act as the escalation point for issue resolution and continuous improvement activities.
  • Engage with delivery teams, architects, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure environment readiness and minimise delivery risks.  

About You

  • Proven experience managing complex environments across large transformation programmes.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure, databases, networking, middleware, and software delivery lifecycles.
  • Experience working within Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery environments.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server technologies (SSMS, SSIS, SSRS), MSMQ, Informatica, and Windows Server.
  • Strong stakeholder management, planning, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data migration programmes and DevOps tooling is desirable.
  • Financial Services industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in environment management, infrastructure delivery, or a related discipline.
