About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an Engineering Manager to work for our client within the finance sector. This is initially a 3 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London. 
  

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams delivering critical banking and lending technology programmes. This is a technical leadership role requiring an individual who can provide strategic engineering direction whilst remaining hands-on enough to pair programme, review solutions, mentor engineers and drive engineering excellence. The successful candidate will oversee approximately 20 engineers across 3-4 feature teams and play a key role in modernising platforms, improving engineering standards and delivering complex technology initiatives.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Lead and manage multiple cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership across Java, React/React Native and cloud-based solutions.
  • Drive engineering best practice, quality standards and governance.
  • Coach, mentor and develop engineers and engineering leads.
  • Pair programme with engineers and provide hands-on technical guidance where required.
  • Own technology delivery across multiple workstreams.
  • Lead technical planning, dependency management and risk mitigation activities.
  • Define and implement test strategies and engineering health initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders across business and technology functions.
  • Drive DevOps adoption, CI/CD maturity and secure coding practices.
  • Support large-scale platform migration and transformation programmes.
  • Ensure delivery aligns with engineering standards and strategic objectives. 

About You

  • 5+ years' Engineering Management experience.
  • 5+ years' Technical Leadership experience.
  • Experience leading multiple feature teams (circa 20 engineers).
  • Strong engineering background with Java, Spring Boot and React/React Native environments.
  • Engineering governance and delivery management experience.
  • Test strategy and quality engineering expertise.
  • Risk, dependency and stakeholder management.
  • Coaching and mentoring of engineering teams.
  • DevOps, CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.
  • Secure coding and engineering standards expertise.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Previous Banking or Financial Services experience.
Desirable:
 
  • Lending domain experience.
  • AWS cloud engineering knowledge.
  • Event-driven architecture.
  • Large-scale migration and legacy decommissioning programmes.
  • SonarQube and Veracode.
  • Jira and Confluence.
  • Vendor and partner management.
  • Strategic planning and organisational leadership experience.
