About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an Application Support Analyst (Linux & Trading Systems) to work for our client within the financial services sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with strong potential for extension and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is looking for a technically minded support professional to join a team responsible for supporting critical trading and financial systems. The role will involve investigating application issues, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting connectivity problems, and supporting production environments that underpin key business operations.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working within Linux environments, have a good understanding of networking fundamentals, and possess a proactive approach to problem-solving. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their expertise within financial technology and gain exposure to trading systems, market data flows, and financial messaging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support business-critical applications within a production environment.
  • Perform first-line investigation and troubleshooting of application, infrastructure, and connectivity issues.
  • Work confidently within Linux environments, navigating file systems, reviewing logs, and identifying root causes of incidents.
  • Monitor system health and respond to application alerts, incidents, and service disruptions.
  • Conduct network connectivity testing using tools such as Ping, Telnet, SSH, and related utilities.
  • Analyse application logs and system events to diagnose and resolve production issues.
  • Escalate complex incidents to relevant technical teams while ensuring effective communication and ownership.
  • Support incident management processes, ensuring issues are tracked and resolved within agreed service levels.
  • Work closely with developers, infrastructure teams, and business users to investigate recurring issues and implement solutions.
  • Assist with system maintenance activities, deployments, releases, and environment support.

About You

  • Experience working in an Application Support, Production Support, Technical Support, or similar role.
  • Comfortable working within Linux command-line environments.
  • Ability to navigate Linux systems and analyse logs to investigate technical issues.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals and experience using connectivity troubleshooting tools such as Ping, Telnet, SSH, Traceroute, and Netstat.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work methodically under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple incidents and tasks simultaneously.
  • A keen interest in technology, infrastructure, and application support.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to service excellence.
Nice to Have:

  • Basic scripting knowledge using Bash, Python, Shell, Perl, or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of networking protocols including TCP/IP and UDP.
  • Exposure to FIX (Financial Information eXchange) protocol and financial messaging technologies.
  • Knowledge of market data, trading platforms, or electronic trading environments.
  • Understanding of how application and infrastructure data flows interact across distributed systems.
  • Experience within financial services, capital markets, investment banking, or trading environments.
