About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Service Designer to work for our client within the Public Sector. This is initially a 3 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London

Our client is seeking a Service Designer to Shape and design future-state service concepts and journeys that meet user needs and Discovery principles, challenging legacy workflows rather than replicating them, and ensuring service design evidence feeds directly into requirements and options.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development and agreement of the user research plan methodology and participation approach
  • Facilitate workshops to capture current workarounds, unmet needs and desired outcomes
  • Map current-state and future-state service journeys and processes, redesigning workflows where appropriate rather than replicating legacy screens
  • Design future-state service concepts aligned to user needs and the user-centred, modular Discovery principles
  • Contribute to the change impact and training needs assessment
  • Present service design outputs at playback and show-and-tell sessions
  • Input into options appraisal and the indicative roadmap from a service design perspective
Contributes to deliverables across
 
  • Project initiation & scope definition, Discovery & research plans, stakeholder/user mapping, current-state assessment, requirements elicitation, future-state definition, options assessment & recommendations, future delivery roadmap, business case inputs pack & handover.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Service Designer on Discovery-stage engagements, ideally using a government or service-standard approach
  • Skilled in service blueprinting, journey mapping and workshop facilitation
  • Experience designing future-state services that move away from legacy or screen-for-screen thinking
  • Strong communication skills, able to present design concepts clearly to non-design stakeholders
Desirable experience/skills
 
  • Experience in UK public sector or regulated organisations
  • Familiarity with GDS Service Standard and Discovery methodology
  • Experience working alongside user researchers and business analysts in a blended team
