About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a User Researcher to work for our client within the Public sector. This is initially a 3 months contract in London 2 days a week (Monday and Wednesday)

Our client is seeking a User Researcher to plan and deliver user research across relevant business areas to build a validated understanding of user needs, pain points, workarounds and strategic requirements, working as part of a two-person research team dividing coverage across user groups and workstreams as agreed with the Discovery Lead.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and help agree the overarching user research plan, including methodology, participation approach and consent arrangements
  • Identify and engage users, stakeholders and policy teams across assigned business areas
  • Conduct research activities (interviews, workshops, desk research) to capture user needs, pain points, desired outcomes and current workarounds
  • Combine new research with review of existing user research to identify gaps and areas requiring validation
  • Capture long-term policy and strategic requirements from teams, independent of current system constraints
  • Synthesise findings into clear insights and contribute to playback sessions
  • Support the change impact and training needs assessment
  • Feed research evidence into requirements elicitation and future-state definition
Contributes to deliverables across:
 
  • Project initiation & scope definition, Discovery & research plans, stakeholder/user mapping, current-state assessment, requirements elicitation, future-state definition, options assessment & recommendations, business case inputs pack & handover.

About You

  • Proven experience as a User Researcher on Discovery-stage engagements
  • Skilled in a range of qualitative research methods (interviews, workshops, contextual research) and synthesising findings into actionable insight
  • Experience engaging stakeholders across multiple business areas, including senior and policy-level contacts
  • Comfortable presenting research findings to project teams and stakeholders
Desirable experience/skills
 
  • Experience in UK public sector or regulated organisations
  • Familiarity with GDS Service Standard and Discovery methodology
  • Experience researching legacy system replacement or case/CRM management platforms
