About The Role

This position requires the successful candidate to work on a W2 directly with FDM. We cannot accept C2C, 1099 or employment sponsorship (e.g. H1-B) for this position.

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy delivering client and industry driven solutions through our 5 core specialist Practices; Software Engineering, Data & Analytics, IT Operations, Change & Transformation, and Risk, Regulation & Compliance.

FDM is seeking a Java/Database Developer located in Jersey CITY to support a project in the financial sector. Involvement in this project is anticipated to last initially 24 months but may be extended.

This role will be hybrid with requirements to be in office 3 days per week.

About You

Java / Database Developer

The resource will be responsible for developing and maintaining Java applications and supporting associated database components.

Start Information

  • Start: ASAP
  • Expected Start: 2-4 weeks after offer acceptance due to business requirements.

Additional Requirements

  • Hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days onsite per week.

Overview of the Role

Daily Responsibilities

  • Hands-on development and maintenance of Java-based Compliance and Surveillance applications.
  • Design, enhance, and support systems that enable regulatory surveillance and monitoring.
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical issues using internal tools and frameworks.
  • Support release coordination, production readiness, and deployment activities.
  • Maintain and improve existing platforms to meet evolving regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Translate business and compliance requirements into technical solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including high-level and low-level design documents.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Compliance, Risk, and Business stakeholders.
  • Release management and production support teams.
  • Distributed onshore and offshore development teams.

Client Interaction

  • No external client interaction.
  • Frequent collaboration with internal compliance, risk, and technology stakeholders.

Example Projects

  • Enhancing regulatory surveillance controls to address audit and compliance findings.
  • Developing and maintaining Java applications supporting monitoring and alerting workflows.
  • Building and supporting database solutions utilizing Oracle and MySQL technologies.
  • Developing automation and data-processing utilities using Python.
  • Supporting data integration and ETL initiatives leveraging Informatica tools.
  • Implementing improvements to stability, scalability, and operational support processes.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • 5+ years of hands-on Core Java development experience.
  • Strong experience with Spring Framework and Java UI technologies.
  • Experience with Java application servers (WebLogic, WebSphere, Tomcat).
  • Proficiency with Maven, Git, and source control tools.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipeline implementation and maintenance.
  • Strong database experience with Oracle SQL and MySQL.
  • Experience developing automation, scripting, and data-processing solutions using Python.
  • 3+ years of experience with:
    • Oracle SQL
    • MySQL
    • Unix/Linux shell scripting
    • Enterprise job scheduling tools
  • Familiarity with ETL, data integration, and data transformation processes.
  • Exposure to Informatica PowerCenter, Informatica IICS, or similar enterprise data integration tools.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, production support, and release management.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven success working across geographically distributed teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Compliance, Regulatory, or Trade Surveillance platforms.
  • Financial services or capital markets technology experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Informatica PowerCenter, Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS), or comparable ETL tools.
  • Experience supporting enterprise production systems.
  • Familiarity with audit response processes, regulatory change programs, and compliance-driven development.
  • Experience working with large-scale data management, ETL, data warehousing, and data quality initiatives.
  • Experience building Python-based automation or data analysis solutions.
