About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an experienced Planner to support a major nuclear transition and decommissioning programme. Working through a leading infrastructure consultancy, you will join a large integrated team supporting an energy client on a complex and nationally significant programme of work. This is initially a 12 month contract and will be a hybrid role based in Suffolk.

This is an excellent opportunity to work client-side within one of the UK's most highly regulated environments, helping to plan and coordinate the transition and future decommissioning activities of a critical energy asset.

We are looking for a planner who brings more than technical scheduling expertise. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating within complex programme environments, analysing dependencies, challenging assumptions, identifying risks, and providing planning insight that supports informed decision-making across multiple stakeholders and workstreams. The role offers the opportunity to join a long-term programme with significant strategic importance and strong potential for extension.

Overview of the Role:

As a Planner, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analysing integrated programme schedules across a portfolio of transition and decommissioning activities. Working alongside programme managers, project controls teams, engineers, and senior stakeholders, you will provide planning support that enables effective delivery, governance, and programme control.

You will play a key role in understanding programme dependencies, supporting forecasting and reporting activities, and ensuring robust planning processes are embedded throughout the programme lifecycle.

This role is well suited to a planning professional with strong Primavera P6 expertise who enjoys working in highly regulated, technically complex environments where critical thinking and problem-solving are as important as planning tool knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and manage integrated project and programme schedules across transition and decommissioning workstreams.
  • Provide planning expertise and schedule assurance to programme and project delivery teams.
  • Analyse programme dependencies, constraints, and critical path activities.
  • Support programme managers and technical teams in developing realistic and achievable delivery plans.
  • Monitor progress against key milestones and programme objectives.
  • Identify schedule risks, delays, and opportunities, recommending appropriate mitigation actions.
  • Support forecasting, scenario planning, and what-if analysis activities.
  • Challenge planning assumptions, sequencing, and durations to improve programme performance and delivery confidence.
  • Produce planning reports, dashboards, and progress updates for senior stakeholders.
  • Ensure planning standards, governance requirements, and programme controls processes are consistently applied.
  • Support change management, performance reporting, and risk management activities.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to maintain alignment across complex workstreams.
  • Contribute to programme reviews, governance meetings, and assurance activities.
  • Provide planning insight and analysis to support key programme decisions.

About You

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Programme Controls, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in project planning or programme controls within major infrastructure, engineering, energy, or capital project environments.
  • Primavera P6 certification or equivalent planning qualifications desirable.
  • Understanding of programme controls, project lifecycle management, and planning best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Planner within major infrastructure, engineering, energy, utilities, nuclear, or capital delivery programmes.
  • Strong Primavera P6 experience, including schedule development, maintenance, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience developing and maintaining integrated project and programme schedules.
  • Strong understanding of critical path analysis, dependency management, forecasting, and schedule performance.
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex programme data.
  • Ability to challenge delivery assumptions constructively and provide planning-led recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and large programme environments.
  • Good understanding of programme controls, governance, and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced delivery environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting nuclear generation, nuclear decommissioning, or wider energy-sector programmes.
  • Previous experience working client-side within major infrastructure or capital project environments.
  • Knowledge of transition, operational change, asset lifecycle, or decommissioning programmes.
  • Experience working alongside major infrastructure consultancies such as Costain or similar organisations.
  • Exposure to schedule risk analysis, quantitative risk assessment, and scenario modelling techniques.
  • Understanding of earned value management and wider programme controls disciplines.
  • Experience supporting executive reporting and governance forums.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks associated with nuclear or highly regulated industries.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a planner who enjoys working on complex, strategically important programmes and wants to play a key role in supporting the transition and future decommissioning of one of the UK's most significant energy assets.
